Looking ahead: Magic Cat Publishing chooses Biblio to future-proof its business

Updated: Jun 7, 2023

Virtusales Publishing Solutions is delighted to welcome Magic Cat Publishing to the Biblio community.

Award-winning and bold, Magic Cat is a small, independent publisher that stands out from the crowd. Already a roaring success, this growing publisher is now setting its sights on the future and has chosen the BiblioSuite of publishing software to streamline its publishing workflows and support its continued growth. Publishing a mixture of non-fiction, gift and picture books, Magic Cat has selected Biblio’s Bibliographic, Production and Rights modules to manage all its products in a single system, to synchronize and share its enriched data, and finesse its reporting - all with a view to maximizing the sales and discoverability of its products.

As a children’s publisher that sells its books across the globe, Magic Cat understands the importance of having a system that facilitates the production of co-editions, and the benefits that the BiblioSuite offers in this regard. In particular, Biblio aids the provision of accurate and detailed print information, and the management of complex costings and schedules for all product types; enabling Magic Cat to gain sight of their ordering and reporting, company-wide. The publisher is looking forward to linking the costs for their co-prints and co-editions to automatically define their pro-rata print costs and account for savings on press; and raising a single purchase order for all titles that are being printed together.

Magic Cat is looking forward to reaping the benefits of the Biblio system, as Kate Manning, Marketing and Publicity Director at Magic Cat Publishing explains:

“We started publishing in March 2020 but have grown so quickly, and that growth has been primarily in co-editions. To be able to bring in a trusted publishing system at this point means that we can not only streamline our processes but also make an efficient and stable bibliographic base that we can then take forward as we add more titles and territories.”

About Magic Cat Publishing

Magic Cat is an award-winning, independent Children’s books and stories company based in Bethnal Green, London. Established in July 2019, and founded by two award-winning publishers, Rachel Williams and Jenny Broom, we are one of the UK’s only independent houses operated and owned by women.

We have built a reputation for producing beautiful, high-quality, fully illustrated gift, novelty, picture books and non-fiction across four core pillars: natural history, fantasy and adventure, inclusivity, and wellness. We focus on delivering ideas that matter in stories that could be read aloud. Each one of our books acts like a lighthouse brand, taking an idea that matters to a parent, and making it meaningful to a little one.

We were crowned winners of the 2021 IPG Nick Robinson Newcomer award and were highly commended in the Small Press of the Year category at the Bookseller of the Year awards 2021. In 2022 we won the IPG International Award.
