Founded in 1978, Boydell & Brewer is an academic press based from offices in Woodbridge near Cambridge, UK and Rochester, New York, USA. The publisher specialises in English and European historical and critical works and while Medieval studies originally formed the core of their list, the publisher has expanded to embrace the humanities in all periods up to and including the present day and also become one of the leading publishers of books on classical music. Boydell and Brewer has over 7100 titles in print or in production and publishes 250 new books per year.
Recently, as part of a business process review, Boydell and Brewer created a new pre-press department and began developing an XML workflow with in-house typesetting. As part of this new process they needed a modern and fully functional Digital Asset Management solution to store and workflow their assets between internal teams and external suppliers. Initially the main users are editorial, pre-press and production, but ultimately the plan is to widen the use of the software and involve all contributors including sales and marketing.
After just a few months the solution went live in 2020 and BiblioDAM has become the core collaboration software for all asset development, organisation and storage.
"We had a pressing requirement for a groupwide solution to manage the distribution of our files to our print partners and sales channels. We were asking our staff to do repetitive, time consuming tasks with no reliable audit trail or fail safe method of spotting omissions. We are very pleased with the BiblioDAM. It has allowed us to work much more efficiently and to get our books out to our vendors and customers that much more quickly. Virtusales has provided us with a cost-effective solution and I am pleased to recommend their services to other publishers."
